  2. Vitamin C + Keto diet (olive oil based) + fiber will reverse diabetes. The "underlying" disease is clogging of the pancreas. Cholestoral clogging is like a scab on the wound. Whole Vitamin C fixes that underlying problem. Fiber clears whats left. Same reason diabetics have diseased feet just like scurvy.

(Luca Pacioli invented debit and credit accounting to address those types of things.) A better analogy may be maintaining the appearance of a high standard of living by using credit cards, or cashing in your 401(k), or borrowing money from a loan shark. Just don't miss a payment.

  4. Thanks Dr. Greger. I was waiting for you and your team to bring us some light about the keto diets for a long time.
    But, what about fasting? I am vegan and I eat predominantly carbs instead of fats. But I do intermittent fasting (16×8) everyday and a 7 days water fasting two times a year. I even have keton bodies in my urine. I wonder if the observations you made about the keto diet apply to my case too.

  6. Dr Greger, can you please distinguish between omnivore keto and whole food vegan keto. In your earlier writings you've suggested vegan keto might be beneficial or safe. Yet many whole food vegan options are high in saturated fat, beyond just coconut and palm. I'm under the impression, not just a low saturated fat vegan diet is more health promoting, but a low fat diet in general, with the exception of adequate omega 3 intake, in terms of optimal cholesterol, heart and vascular health. If you could please discuss in detail, the optimal choices for overall fat and saturated fat intake, for those already adhering to a diverse whole food vegan diet, this would be so helpful.

I am reminded of when I used the app Fat secret, many keto adapted, and carb sensitivity so bad one woman lost the initial control she managed to get over her blood sugar and fretted about eating g a serving of strawberries! Because it would reek havoc on her BS. Then ALL the keto dieters resorted to intermittent fasting when they would just lose all control of BS or weight loss stagnated. Shame. Shame.

I don't know how you would ever lower your blood sugar, on carbs, for me it never worked out, you can eat green vegetables, with no worries, and we don't eat humongas amounts of fat. diabetes is an incidiouse desease. And it does not make sense that you would put a whole lot of the wrong carbs into your body to control it. And if you don't preserve your insulin by fasting, you will run out of it and become T1 Then you have real problems!! insulin just keeps you fat, and that will, in the end lead to more insulin, and you will end up dying, albeit over time. T2 and T1 is like a dog chasing it's tail, a merry-go- round. And you have to ask yourself, if fresh fruit and vegies is the way to go, like the food pyrimid, then why do we have an epidemic of this desease!!! costing governments around the world billions.

  11. Indeed it does. I was Pre-diabetic and given 6 months before going on metformin when my GP suggested keto. 6 years and healthiest I have ever been. Finally, I realised being constantly drowsy DIDN'T HAVE TO BE THE NORM!!!

  14. Spends more time on analogies than facts…2 days on keto, 1 week on keto, few weeks on atkins (not keto btw)….it takes longer than that to get into ketosis. Lots of flowery talk, little facts and no long term study results.

  15. I did the Keto diet for 7 months. I lost 50 lbs. I thought it was incredible at first! I felt lean and the compliments kept me going.

    Trouble in paradise started when I had a minor operation. My blood had trouble clotting! I small procedure turned into a very painful hematoma because I was Vitamin K deficient for the past 7 months despite supplementing!

    I started having chest pains and knew my heart was getting to its limit with all the animal protein and fat. Months of fearing bananas but embracing butter in my coffee was taking its toll.

    Then I noticed that as I tried to transition off, I would get severe headaches when I ate a more carb heavy diet. I knew I had done something to my body that was not healthy.

    My body was able to start processing carbs normally after a transition period of a couple months. I am glad I stopped when I did (better sooner). I hope others stop this unhealthy diet and move to a healthier alternative before it’s too late.

  16. Not really objective, 80% fat is not a good keto diet, where is a double blind study with a 2/3 vegetables and 1/3 meat+fat diet?? This video is biased for me, i know people who had a diabetes risk and got rid of the problem with a real keto diet

  17. After a year of Keto way of eating my primary care physician said on 9-9-19, "You have cured your Diabetes." Type 2 Diabetes. This is after doing full panel blood tests every 3 months.

  20. NutritionFacts.org When Fasting, blood ketone levels also rise as we start to live off body fat in ketosis. Does this mean fasting raises Acetone levels too and hence MG's and AGE's or does the fasting state somehow prevent this? This is an important question with the increase in fasting use as a healing mechanism, especially for diabetics. Excellent video.

I agree that keto makes you more intolerant to carbs because of the increased fat intake, but on the other side of the spectrum, a high carb low fat fat makes you just as intolerant to fat. So why not eat a HCLF diet? High carb low fat diets cannot be healthy because they require you to lower a macronutrient (fat) that is crucial for good health

Tried to look at channel owner's credentials apart from the letters he puts behind his name and found no description of his training, medical specialty or science based training. This would seem like another hach channel pretending to be speaking for science. Touting evidence based philosophy while not providing evidence. The concepts behind this video are completely off base.

I have always appreciated your videos but it seems clear on this one you may be misleading folks a bit…on your own studies it shows an initial spike in blood sugar and then a massive reduction over time on a keto diet (btw you can also do keto vegan or vegetarian so using 'keto diet' is a bit confusing as well)…I would recommend Dr. Ben Bikman to those confused. Still love what you're doing just consider being a bit more truly objective.

Does it bother anybody that I accept that this is what I need? Kinda like an alcoholic deciding they won’t go back to drinking. Please don’t tell me that injecting insulin is a better option!

Your presentation is very misleading: I have T2D and following a LCHF diet helped me reduce my HBa1c from 8.2 to 6.2 in 4 months, my TG from 108 mg/dl to 91, my Ch-T from 140 mg/dl to 124, my CH-LDL from 0.74 mg/dl to 0.47 , increased my CH-HDL from 0.50 to 0.59. The bonus: I lost 11 kgs (from 74 to 63). I haven't taken any form of medication. Note: if an individual is on a LCHF diet, it is very normal that they have blood glucose spikes after a high carb meal, that is known as the second meal effect. The second meal phenomenon is due to fact that the metabolism has re-adapted itself to fat (healthy fats) ingestion while on a LCHF which necessitates more bile and less insulin. The same phenomenon would happen to an individual on a high carb diet having fatty meals (not enough bile to help digest). I feel more comfortable with high bile than insulin , would you? By the way, thanks to regular exercise (walking for not less than an hour daily) I noticed an increase in my body lean mass and less fatigue, contrary to what you have quoted and presented as fact. Actually, it is fiction, my case is fact.
    P.S. my sexual performance? My wife is so happy: rigid and sustained erection …

  37. My mother definitely lost 25kg and reversed her type 2 diabetes. She has done the hard work, and enjoys high carbs here and there but has found Keto food to be way more fulfilling. Yes her blood sugar level rockets because she was sensitive, but that was only at the start of reintroducing carbs – people would rather tare it down than believe a human will adapt to it's conditions. High BGL should not be the aim, and using it as the argument is far from Keto and just stupid.

To quote 'Conspiracy-Pseudoscience category may publish unverifiable information that is not always supported by evidence. These sources may be untrustworthy for credible/verifiable information, therefore fact checking and further investigation is recommended on a per article basis when obtaining information.

  39. 1/3 of Americans will be diabetic by 2050, and high fat is a big part of the problem, but no the only part. Of course, the sugar is bad, too, the refined foods, and other things, too. Keto = high fat. It's just telling people it's ok what they want to eat; it validates them, so it's easy to convince people; it's self confirmation bias.

  41. I noticed these studies were done mainly with Atkins not keto and the keto studies were likely eating less veggies as shown in the article in this video. The problem with most if not all these research studies is that they do not test groups that properly follow healthy keto more likely the keto ppl were eating less veggies too much bad fats etc…if done correctly you should be eating 7-10cups veggies as Dr.Berg tells us and healthy fats not crazy huge amounts either and moderate protein from healthy sources.
    And not sure how you think you are making type 2 diabetes better by not going keto. Yes it is a lifestyle change you cant/shouldn't go back to unhealthy diet that caused the issue to begin with. And ok so you say it makes it worse when you try to eat a toxic amount of sugar in one drink like the glucose test , why would anyone think your body would welcome such a huge amount of toxic sugar after being on clean healthy foods for a long time. This would shock your body plus being fat adapted your body is now used to burning fat for fuel then you give a huge sugar drink to test them! Crazy and as much as I would love to go back to eating carbs and sugars like honey those are the very things that caused insulin resistance! How else would you recommend fixing it? I saw you mention a few things one was surgery not sure how that works but anyway who wants meds or surgery when you can eat lots of vegetables , some berries too on keto don't go crazy eating all the wrong fats and you shouldn't eat more fat then veggies either! In fact once you are fat adapted you can live off you're own fat stores and you cut back on dietary fat you don't need to keep eating high amounts of fat. Listen to Dr.Berg explain how to follow the diet properly to live a healthy life. It is meant to be a forever lifestyle change for the better not a on and off diet

  42. You have a video where you define the ketogenic diet you are speaking of ? You keep on mentioning Atkins, Atkins is similar but not the same. Responsible ketogenic diet educators always emphasize the importance of vegetables and moderate protein. Pls look up Dr Fung and Dr. Westerman’s work one is a nephrologist and one heads obesity clinic at duke university for past 20 years.

  44. The problem is this simply isnt true. Greger is confounding temporary phenomenon with the underlying pathology.

    'fasting' for a week results in exactly the same temporary response to glucose. The question is what happens to actual insulin resistance on a low carb diet or fasting? It improves.

    Greger doesnt address this.

    A recent study by the US military found that after a three month Ketogenic diet Insulin resistance was improved by 48% compared to controls.

    This is repeated in multiple study findings

    I wonder why Dr Greger doesnt mention these, but merely mentions the results if an immediate glucose test?

  45. Great video. You can see when the dislikes approaches 10% there's a backlash from people looking for confirmation bias for keto and they get this. It's like drilling through granite, getting into their minds. I can be the same way with my bias. I'm not blaming here.

    It's just interesting to see the slight variations in likes and dislikes and what it says, or what I think it's saying.

The ketogenic diet which is the most natural human diet and is the way humans have been eating for thousands of years completely helps and in most cases reverses the cause of it like mine, I can eat sugar and it no longer effects me anymore, when I was vegan it just made it worse so I know for a fact it's all the processed sugar and processed foods that causes diabetes.

  49. People with type 2 diabetes should avoid carbohydrates. These people have a carbohydrate intolerance. Carbohydrates are not essential. They should avoid refined sugar, refined carbs, starchy carbs, industrial vegetable oils, fruits, juices, and whole grains. Whole grains (wheat, oats, corn, soy, rice, rye, barley) will raise the blood sugar, cause weight gain, raise the insulin level, cause gout, cause fatty liver disease, cause heart disease, cause Alzheimer's Dementia, and will cause cancer because of the glyphosate. Whole grains will also damage the intestinal lining, increase inflammation, and can cause autoimmune diseases. Avoiding carbs will cause weight loss, improve insulin sensitivity, improve heart disease, improve fatty liver disease, and decrease inflammation. So what, people on the ketogenic diet did worse after eating carbs again. These people just need to avoid carbs and stay off of carbs for the long term. The plant based diet will improve type 2 diabetes in the short term but the plant based diet is damaging to the human body long term. On the plant based diet you will have many vitamin, mineral, nutrient, and protein deficiencies especially the fat soluble vitamins (A,D,E,K) and B12, and omega 3 EPA, DHA fatty acids. Whole grains raise the blood sugar, raise the insulin level, cause weight gain, cause inflammation, cause heart disease, cause Alzheimer's Dementia, cause autoimmune diseases, and cause cancer. The choice is yours.
