Episode 55: Arthritis

Hello, and welcome to another episode of Squeaky
Wheel Productions’ Disability Series. Today’s topic is Arthritis. What is arthritis, what are the symptoms,
and how is it treated? We’ll learn the answers to each of these questions
and more. Let’s get started! Arthritis refers to a group of chronic conditions
characterized by inflammation of the joints and other parts of the body. Inflammation refers to isolated swelling and
pain which affects a specific part of the body. Although arthritis can affect anyone at any
age, it is most common in women and older adults. Arthritis is believed to be caused by a number
of biological and environmental factors such as nerve damage, infection, abnormal immune
function, and irregular metabolism. Now let’s look at the different types of arthritis. There are four main types of arthritis: these
include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, infectious arthritis, and metabolic arthritis. Each of these conditions have their own unique
causes and characteristics. However, it is important to note that the
symptoms and prognosis of arthritis vary from person to person, depending on their exact
diagnosis. Watch this week’s vlog to learn more about
the different types of arthritis. So, what are the symptoms of arthritis? Common symptoms of arthritis include joint
pain, stiffness, inflammation and swelling, fatigue, and limited mobility. Arthritis is a chronic, lifelong condition
that ranges from mild to severe. It can affect both weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing
joints, and may cause irreparable damage and loss of function. So, what treatments are available for individuals
with arthritis? Common treatments for arthritis include pain
management, medication, physio and occupational therapy, and surgery. Of course treatments vary from person to person,
depending on their specific needs, but symptoms can be easily managed with proper care. Well, that’s all for this week. Now I’d like to hear from you. Did I leave any questions unanswered in today’s
video? Please let me know in the comments. If you enjoyed this episode and want to see
