How I Healed My Eczema (Atopic dermatitis) | For People Who Want Change in Their Life

Hello my name is Xena. I would like to share a little story with you today. The little story goes like this: My cousin and I were fixing dinner in the summer time of 2016, so this summer, this year. And she said to me randomly “Xena my coworker’s daughter’s eczema healed!” And she was really excited and happy about it. So. I was happy about it too to hear that. Anyway. I asked her “Oh like what did she do? That’s awesome! How did she heal her eczema?” My cousin told me that she told her* what I have been doing to help with me skin for the past couple of years. And she said to her coworker that I cut out meat, eggs, dairy, gluten, wheat, processed foods, sugars, and milk out of my diet. And it was two months after they had their little conversation that the coworker said thank you to her. My cousin was shocked that her coworker shared I guess my tips well my cousins tips that she observed me do and that her daughter applied it and it helped her heal her skin. I just thought that little story and that incident was quite powerful. You know it motivated me to make this video because simple conversations like that, sharings of information what has worked for someone gets reached out to help someone else. I think that’s amazing so yeah here I am making this video. Yeah so I’ll say those tips again that have helped me. And I’ll say it again as simple as it can be, as how my cousin shared it. And I’ll add in my tips on what has worked for me. My first tip would be to eat really clean, whole foods. And this doesn’t have to be anything special or organic. This may include cutting out meat, dairy and, eggs. Cutting out wheat, gluten. Cutting out all processed foods and sugars. And drinking lots of water. So you may want to start really small and do one thing at a time or you can go cold turkey like me and kind of straight off the bat, you know clear that all out and kind of see where that, see where it goes. Tip #2 would be to exercise daily. And I guess the emphasis for this would be to release stress. And kind of put your mind somewhere else rather than your problem, so your skin condition. Tip #3 is to get adequate amounts of sleep. And the reason for this is to you know. Your body needs to heal so I think that really helps with the process. So getting lots of sleep. Tip # 4 would be to reach out to people. You know your friends, family, health care professionals (depending on your situation). To help you know, provide that emotional support and encouragement. And I think just being around people is, it’s a good thing. To emphasize on my point about reaching for people, reaching for your friends, family for social support and encouragement. I’d like to state two little “micro-stories.” Okay the first one will be… so when I had severe eczema from head to toe, my whole body was swollen- my neck, everywhere. I was in pain physically. It was hard to move. And when I would be driving it was hard for me to shoulder check. So my sister use to shoulder check for me. And I just think that’s funny. And it’s good because I mean, I laugh at it now. How did I get through that? The second little “micro-story” would be… a friend of mine and it was in middle school. I remember we would always have playdates where I would go to her house and we would make grilled cheese. And I would have these eczema patches on me and she would ask about them. And I was very self conscious about them and just like very insecure. But she actually… she kind of… she’s a funny girl. But she… Holly if you are watching, you’re awesome. But she, she said “let’s just pretend to people that you burned your skin while we made grilled cheese!” And I just think that’s funny because I don’t know, just kind of people like that, like your supports, they really help during your tough times. And I still laugh at that story today. Tip #5 would be to be gentle with yourself, patient, and to be less harsh on yourself during your process. It’s not a one time, one night, quick fix. It takes time. So yeah be patient. I’d like to reach out to people who you know suffer with severe eczema whether that’s been with you since childhood, it could be for a couple of months, a couple of years. Or any skin condition. I actually have a friend who… he was telling me a story about him having these huge blood boils all over his body. And you know, he’s been to dermatologists, different types of doctors to help with his skin condition but nothing has you know helped. His skin looks way better today. He also has really bad acne. But what has really helped him today is simple changes like what I’ve stated. Eating clean you know exercising. You know… managing your stress. Those kinds of things. I tried to get him in this video but he didn’t want to be. So just sharing that little thing. It doesn’t have to be eczema. It could be acne. It could be like weird bloody boils. He would wake up in his bed with these bloody boils bursting and his bed sheets full of blood. And even with my eczema, I would wake up with my bedsheets full of scales of you know scratching at night and blood and pus. Just not fun. So anyways. Yeah. I want to reach out to people who really simply want change in their life. And it doesn’t have to be skin related. It could be still health related. It could be relationships. It could be career, educational. It could be life and situational circumstance. The list is endless but really to reach to those people who want change in their life. Quite specific to eczema though, I kind of want to touch base on feelings. Like where you are maybe right now. That there’s hope at the end of the tunnel. There’s light at the end of the tunnel as they say. Right now perhaps you are feeling stressed. Your feeling overwhelmed. You know sad. You are stuck at home, you’re homebound. Maybe you have to take some time off work. Or you know you just can’t get yourself to spend time with people or you’re not… you just are physically in pain. You’re depleted. You are emotionally… you know overwhelmed. You’re just… just in a negative rut. You’re just, you know, not feeling too great. You have low self-esteem. You’re sad. Maybe you’re depressed. There are a number of things that could be causing you to suffer. I just wanted to say don’t disregard these feelings. You may be thinking you know “Why am I making such a big deal of this?” “Why is this eczema taking such a huge toll of life?” And maybe “I’m just overreacting?” Or maybe you know “It could be worse. I have other things to be thankful for.” Or “It could be cancer.” Like I think that’s really being hard on yourself. And I think that… you putting yourself down. That’s not fair for yourself. I think everyone is deserving to be happy. And to experience life in as much joy as they can. And I think it’s sad if you allow certain situations or certain things to kind of weigh you down even more. Right now you may be frustrated. You’ve reached out to a number of health care professionals. You’ve faithfully followed the medical regime and you’re 100% like really firm on what to do but nothing has worked. It could be a temporary fix and again it comes back and things are just worse. Yeah maybe you’ve been… you literally have tried everything in the books. All your efforts are you know, put to waste. And now you are kind of searching for a different route, a different alternative. There must be something else out there to help you. Now you’re kind of out there looking. Whether that be other health care professionals, different books. You’re educating yourself online, different sources out there. And maybe you even came upon this video. When you engorge yourself in a bunch of information like that you may be feeling overwhelmed and kind of skeptical. I was specifically very skeptical because I literally thought I tried everything in the books. Now you’re here and you are searching. So I kind of want to be a motivator. I kind of want to support and guide you through the life changes that you may decide to chose. I think… I think there’s something good waiting. I am a believer that positive, good changes happen to people who realize that they need it or start to consider. And you know, start shining a light on what perhaps needs to be done. So with that being said, I will provide some informational links down in the description bar. And you yourself, if you are open to it, if you wish. Because they have really helped me during my transition and kind of understanding what was going on with my body. In a separate video because I don’t want to make this lengthy and overwhelming. I will put together some footage of my skin when it got really bad. I wish I had more photos of when I was little… very little but I have it recently of I think within these three years because that was when I started making some lifestyle changes. Maybe that will motivate you and you know put some hope. That there’s hope! Like my skin right now there’s no eczema on it right now. There’s none! I identified with my skin condition. I blamed it for the source of my unhappiness, my self confidence, everything. I was really frustrated because why couldn’t there be… why couldn’t my skin heal? And I felt like it kept getting worse and that nothing was getting better. And then I was searching, I was searching for ways to heal and luckily I stumbled upon other people who also was able to take control of their skin and their life. And that kind of helped me. I hope this helps you too. When would be a good time? A good time to start considering change or even making some changes would be today. And this may be a little drastic but I like to think of it as like for example tomorrow. If I was to pass away would I be content with where I am in life today? Why not today? What’s holding you back? Are you really… like don’t let eczema. Don’t let anything in your life be… like don’t identify yourself with it because… Then that’s who you are. Like do you want to be that for the rest of your life? What can you take from this video? I hope that it sparks some light in your life. I hope you know you stop and you reflect. And maybe make some changes in your life? I was there too and I… luckily my skin has been the best that it has ever been. Seriously. It’s great. Okay. I would like to challenge you today to make one positive change in your life. It could be really minute, very minute or very drastic. Like you could go cold turkey, hard like how I did. Or just start small. I promise you if you make one positive change in your life, write it down, and keep it consistent… That you will learn how to develop the skills and learn how to you know see situations in a positive light. And see that you can reach your optimal state of happiness if you try. As Brian Tracy says “You cannot lose by taking action. You can only lose by not taking action.” I just say why not start today?   2. Great video Xena; very courageously spoken from the heart and a lot of valuable information given in a relatively short time span.

    Something I would like to add from my own personal past and current (different yet equally severe) skin conditions; is that a persons own perception of themselves can play a huge role in their general health. I don't know if you or who else could/does relate to this, but I found that for myself, the more I focus on the condition itself, the worse the condition progresses or "flares". I think that it can serve a person greatly to find a healthy balance between being aware of their conditions to a point that they can note subtle changes, yet at the same time allow themselves to put the condition to the side, and not become consumed in it in their daily lives. Granted this can be an incredibly difficult and daunting task depending on the severity of the situation, I do still feel it is something to strive for and that can be achieved.
    I found that my greatest enemy, is a mirror in front of me.

  4. I'm a lifelong eczema sufferer from age of 5 until now at 22, my skin has improved a lot in the last year since I have changed my diet. Your skin looks perfect and I would never think you had eczema! Thanks for the motivation 🙌

  5. Well i had it too but than i discovered that the problem was in water, i didn't drink enough, after i start drinking enough water it healed and now i don't have it my skin is perfectly clear

  8. I've tried everything to help my eczema but nothing has worked, i've tried all the diets, creams and tips for years and it hasn't got better! I'm going to simply drink lots of water, sleep more and exercise more and see how much it helps in two months! 🙂

I was wondering if I could ask a couple questions: How long did your topical steroid withdrawal last and how long were you using them for? And did you see your eczema heal in stages/phases and did you have any flare ups ? xx

  11. Thank you for your video. I related to a lot of what you said. The encouragement was nice. It has been 3 years since I stopped steroid creams and it was hell going through withdrawal. But the worst part was that the creams completely ruined my skin. I feel so upset that the dermatologists can prescribe these things long term for people. Your video and words give me hope. I'm going to try to start by drinking more water. I know I don't drink enough.

  12. Why does diet matter so much? I've eaten the same way for the past 19 years and I just got dishydrosis in my last year (I'm 20 years now)….why should I have to change my whole diet if it's been fine for 19 years? For me changing to no meat, milk, eggs, gluten is a HUGE lifestyle change… I don't understand why a change in diet would help if I ate the same way for the past 19 years of my life and it suddenly appeared 😔

  14. Hi Xena. I'm 17 and I'm from Vietnam. I have had eczema for 2 years and it's getting more severe. My passion is to become a beauty therapist but now that I have eczema, it seems really hard to keep up my work. I'm frustrated. I don't know whether eczema can be healed permanently.   17. Hey, i am going through acute atopic dermatitis. I am 16 years old, it started when i was 15 in sep 2016. Intially i thought it is just a rash it wasn't. I met my doctor who is treating me now in dec.I never took steriods or steriods cream because they are harmful my doctor told me not to use them.he gave me homemade creams to apply vitamins to eat and some tabelts intially nothing helped but then their was one pill "itraconazole or itrasure" that helped me atlast.That was our last hope.I am still on those pills. With many other vitamins like flaxseed oil tablets etc.I took a food panel test and subtracted all those foods that were told to be. Like chicken,meat, egg white,besan (gramflour).And many more.
    Well i am almost fine still itches now and then and still have marks and weakness.
    This was my story.I know how it feels to go through this but trust me you ll be fine. (If someone is suffering from this or other diseases/disorders).

  19. Hi Guys it seems everyone on here also suffers from this dreadful illness. Need some help with my diet and daily routine, could you point out what I need to add/remove.

    Breakfast –> assorted beans soup or pumpkin soup with coffee (1 sugar)
    Bread Roll (the ones from the asian bread store) either with jams and peanut butter or cheese
    Lunch –> brown rice + seaweed
    snack –> occasional chocolate/cake, apples, manderine and banana
    dinner –> whatever meat rice noodles veggies however no fried food.
    basically i've minimized my meat intake to once a day. I think I'll go insane if I have to go full vegan but I'm afraid I have to soon…

    I take a bath everyday with QV oil for 30 minutes then take a cold shower afterwards then apply coconut oil to sooth the skin but after say 2 hours everything dries up and it just becomes painful to move. (Any creams or remedies you guys can recommend? I want to stay away from steroid creams)

    Gym 3-4 times a week.

You look gorgeous, after doing the elimination diet, exercising, eating foods to heal the gut, and managing stress with meditation and yoga, I am still experiencing severe eczema and sometimes feel discourage, I think it's all because of the topical steroid withdrawal, it's amazing that this medication does more harm than the disease itself

Hi guys. **I am 13-14 years old.I don't know what is happening to my body but i used to many steroids,cortizons things like that i used 21 diffrent medicines in like 6 months it is my 6th month**.I am in pain of this little bloody ball thingies.I went for 13 doctors and my doctor said it is a Atopic Eczema.   24. Hey Xena! Have you ever heard of Low Dose Naltrexone? I had an extremely bad case of TSW and overcame it with this drug. It's harmless (virtually zero side effects) and cheap. I would bet on it with my life. I've never. EVER. felt better and my skins is so beautiful, smooth and tanned.

    I was really struggled with eczema for nearly one year.. its really horrible and so itchy.. everyone says that food is problem and other things too. But now i cured 100 percent dont go to doctor or anything. Dont waste your money and your time too.. simple treatment in herbal way..
    Start my method and eczema with runout of your body totally.

    1) Have table spoon of apple cider vinegar in empty stomach on morning and apply the apple cider vinegar on the eczema where ever it is.. (note : you will feel so burning in your skin.. but nothing will happen.. it kills all your bat)
    2) mix lemon and honey and apply on the eczema.
    3)last one mix the oat meal with honey and apply on eczema .. leave it for 30 mins..

    Repeat the treatment for 3 times a day and do this treatment at least for 2 weeks.. you will the improvement in secondor third day.

  30. I have just recently been diagnosed with this and it's ruined me. I went to the doctors to find out what it is, my doctor told me there was nothing I can do about it, your video gave me some faith. I was under the belief that there was nothing I could do about it at all. I'm trying to better myself now. Thank you.

  31. My wife stopped having acute Atopic dermatitis just drinking lemon with empity stomach everyday in the morning for few days.She also use to have allergic coughing.Its passed 3 months since she did it and so far her skin is fine.

  32. I've struggled with my eczema for a couple years now. It's all over my arms and a little on my stomach. I need to learn to be more patient, because I always get discouraged when I think it's starting to heal and then flare up again. I used to be very self conscious about showing my arms in public.   35. my atopic dermatitis is very very similar to yours. i would always wake up with scaly skin on my sheets and blood or weird liquid oozing out and i would feel very insecure, frustrated and anxious all the time. thank you for this video. im trying hard to heal and this really motivated me so thank you 🙂

  36. I'm going through atopic dermatitis since i was 12 now i'm 16. It never heal, i go to so many doctors i used steroid injection and it kinda works for like a month, than my skin became addicted to the steroid injection. And right now, my skin is like full of this disgusting thing. Why is this never ending? I always hide my finger wherever i go (cause "it" s on my finger most). I wanted to be like other teen age girl who go to the nail salon and doin mani and pedi while i'm sitting here on my couch trying to not cry seeing my skin.

  39. My skin dark when I go to heat… My skin type sensitive skin with combination skin wheatish colr.. Home made cr4ams also not suitable to my skin.. Plz suggest me… I have prob astma. I used inhaler any reason for that prob

  40. Have to cut out fruit because of the sugar content. Remember, whether you get sugar from coke or fruits, it's the same thing. Only thing different is that fruits contain nutrients which you can supplement elsewhere. Stick to lean meats and veggies, workout a few days a week, shower in coldish weather, drink lots of water and don't smoke. if it flares up due to inflammation(you cant avoid stress) take a mild antihistamine like allegra or half a benadryl pill before bed. Good luck folks.

  41. Im 8 years old nearly whole family has eczema im only 8 and I use steroid cream. Before my eczema was so bad my clothes were stuck to me
