How to Avoid Weight Gain at College : How to Monitor Your Weight in College

Hi! I’m Jenny Cooper here for Expert Village.
I’m a dietetic intern at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and I’m here to talk to you
today about the freshman 15. How can I monitor my weight so I’m not surprised by creeping
pounds? Pounds can sneak up quickly if you’re not aware that you’re putting on weight. Try
to be aware of how your clothes are fitting. Be sure that your loose fitting pants aren’t
your knew skinny jeans. Check your weight occasionally to monitor weight gain. Don’t
become obsessed with the number, but try weighing yourself maybe once a week. Be continuous
of how much you’re actually eating. Are you mindlessly snacking on high fat and high calories
snacks throughout the day? One way to monitor what you’re eating is to keep a diet journal.
Write down everything you eat for the day. Then you can be more aware of what you’re
actually eating and how much you’re actually eating.
