Oh my god, I couldn’t shit so I took a little enema thing, and I shove it up my ass. It hurts so badly. In today’s episode we’re going to be trying out a diet trend that’s all the rage right now. The high fat ketogenic diet. With the ketogenic diet, you’re actually required to eat large amounts of fat. For an average person, the body uses carbohydrates as the main source of energy. What the ketogenic diet does, is that it conditions your body to use fat as energy instead. So, I know quite a lot of people who have been on this diet and swear by it because they lost significant amount of weight in a very short period of time. They also experience a greater amount of energy throughout the day, they feel less tired and they actually feel more full from eating fats. Personally I just don’t really like fatty foods, but I really want to see if this diet work, so I’m going to try the keto diet for 1 week, and bring you guys along my experience. Hey guys! So I’m just done with my morning cardio, and I am using this as an opportunity to extend my cardio by taking a walk to the supermarket and getting my groceries for my week of keto. Eating this ketogenic diet is not cheap. My grocery bill came up to like $100+. I have some salmon, some beef, streaky bacon, and I also picked up some feta cheese. And something I also found out is that your vegetables are also calculated, so broccoli is apparently one of the higher carb veggies, but they also keep you fuller because they are very fibrous. I also got some peanut butter. Only peanut and salt, so this is great. They have no added sugar. I’m going to eat this definitely when I’m feeling a little treat. This is what I have for the rest of the week and everything else, I will eat out. So I’m just doing some work at the clicknetwork office. A very popular drink on the ketogenic diet is the keto bulletproof coffee. It’s coffee mixed with butter and coconut oil. Apparently it’s supposed to boost your metabolism, boost your productivity and make you more focused. I’m going to try it out for myself. It looks kind of gross. How is this even appetising? Look at the yellow floating on top. I think you’re supposed to blend it and froth it together. I actually quite like coconut oil, I guess that’s one of the fats that I don’t mind taking cause I generally cook with coconut oil. Actually it’s not bad! The butter is actually quite light tasting and the coconut oil actually makes the coffee quite fragrant. This is my lunch for today that I cooked last night. Salmon with parmesan cheese, broccoli and a lemon wedge. Overall this is really delicious so I don’t really need rice or pasta or noodles to complete it. Keto day 1 going well so far. So far, I don’t feel hungry. So the fats are actually keeping me very full. Morning! It is day 2 of my ketogenic diet! This is my breakfast. I have an egg omelette spinach and avocado. I’m pretty surprised with myself. I’m not really craving the carbs just yet. I am actually going pretty well on a high fat diet. I’m going to attempt to make a keto dinner. I’m just gonna use whatever ingredients that I have and I’m going to make my own creation. I’ve just been doing work for the past few hours. My brain is actually getting foggy. I can’t think, so I’m going to get some peanut butter in. The fact that I can’t have any carbs right now just makes my body feel just not very happy. And I’m gonna get my energy from fats now. The carb cravings are real. Ok, for lunch, I have some sashimi. On the side I’m gonna have some of this. This is some leftovers from last night. I also got some cucumbers because we need more vegetables for the fibre and cucumbers are very low carb vegetable. So I’m at my friend’s party. Going on a keto diet in a social setting when you go for a dinner party is not the best idea. All the food. And the only thing I’m going to be eating tonight is seaweed chicken and a bit of salad. I want some of these. There’s a lot of planning to be on a keto diet. You gotta eat before the party just in case there isn’t food for you. Pizza tonight. Why? Oh my gosh, it looks so good! Good morning girl! Today is day 4 on the ketogenic diet. I’m going to see how the keto diet is going to affect my strength. I usually like to eat a lot of food before I do any kind of strength training program because I believe you need the carbs and you need the energy to push through especially if it’s a really heavy workout. I’m now done with my strength training program. It’s definitely not the same when you’re eating fats as compared to eating carbs before your workout. Today I’m not able to push as hard as I normally would. I did feel a bit fatigue and a bit lethargic when I was doing my 3rd or 4th set of an exercise. I guess maybe my body is still getting used to utilising fat for energy. Oh my god, I couldn’t shit so I took a little enema thing, and I shove it up my ass. It hurts so badly. I’m finally able to go to the toilet. Kind of induced a diarrhoea in my system. I lost quite a lot of water, I feel a bit dehydrated right now. The beef and the dairy and the pork is something that I’m not used to eating so my insides just kinda feels strange and I’m not digesting the food as well as I usually do. I am starting to crave my carbs a lot. I can’t really focus as well right now. The keto diet is starting to get to me. And I don’t like it. And I don’t like the fats. I don’t know, it’s so limiting, like this cannot eat, that cannot eat. It’s so irritating. I really don’t know how people sustain on this diet long term because this is literally the worst diet I’ve ever had to undergo. Guess I gotta up my fibre intake. But, I dunno. I don’t feel very comfortable. This is day 4, I don’t want to do it anymore. I’m on my way to my grandma’s house right now. I feel very sad because we’re going to my grandma’s house and I don’t want to be not eating the food that she cooks for me so hopefully there’s keto friendly food over there. Having lunch with my grandma. My grandpa. Ok, hi! This is a Sunday, my grandma’s usually fabulous and dolled up but today we’re just having a simple meal. Well this is keto friendly. This is beef, and that’s veggie, and there’s also egg! So it’s perfect for my keto meal. I’m back home now. I was meant to go on a date night but I got stood up. Cause I did tell him that I was going on this keto diet, so maybe he got a bit taken aback, like this girl is so uptight, he didn’t want to go out with me anymore? Who knows? But, it’s ok! No love lost, I still have a delicious salmon by myself. Dating on a diet is difficult. I don’t recommend. It is day 7, final day of my keto diet and I just got back from the gym. I feel like fainting because it was such an intense workout. I actually don’t think that the keto diet works for people who train at a very intense level and workout a lot, who are very active because some times when you just need a quick sugar, you need to take things like fruits, which are off limit on the keto diet. I can’t believe there’s a diet that restricts fruits! Like isn’t that crazy? Fruits are so important for you. This has all the potassium, so much good nutrients for you, I don’t think that you should restrict fruits especially after a workout when fruit is essential to get your energy levels back to speed. Something that I should note, is that I am feeling extremely, extremely constipated, and my fart is fucking smelly. This is like dairy and protein. This diet really really constipates you. Ok, TMI, sorry! So I’ve finally come to the end of my week long ketogenic diet, and I’m going to take my weight. 55.4kg! That’s a total of 1.8kg lost in just 1 week. That’s pretty crazy. So I have lost weight and I guess that’s consistent with what people say about this diet. But I will say that 1 week is too short a period for me to really tell if my body is using the fat for energy. My theory is that a lot of it is water weight and the bulk of my weight loss is due to the fact that I’m just eating less starchy carbs. I just don’t think that it’s very sustainable. It’s a very expensive diet. I usually spend about $50 to $60 a week for just my regular groceries, but on the keto diet, I found myself spending about $100 because of the meat. The meat is really expensive. So I just think that it’s an overall very limiting diet because there are carbs in almost everything. Even vegetables are carbs. And depriving your body of any 1 group of nutrients, be it carbs, protein or fat is not going to do your body any good in the long run because you require all 3 groups in order for you to have a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Overall, I don’t think that the keto lifestyle is something I can personally sustain. This review is really based on my personal experience being on the keto diet for 1 week.
