What are Calories? – Huel Nutrition


Calories or Kilojoules are units of
energy. It’s basically what we measure energy in. We need energy to
function, to get through the day. the BMR or the Basel Metabolic Rate sometimes
called the RMR, Resting Metabolic Rate is our amount of calories that we’re
burning when we’re completely sedentary so basically first thing in the morning
when we wake up that is our BMR and this is the amount of calories we need to do
to the minimum, just for our bodies to function while we’re at rest. Now
obviously we all do more than that so we’re all be needing more calories than
that. You know if we take a few steps we need calories, if we’ve got
quite a busy lifestyle you’ll need even more. If you’re very active in your work or you
do a lot of exercise and you need even more calories. Now we get calories from
fat, proteins, carbohydrates and also a little bit from fiber and as a rule of
thumb it’s 9 calories per gram of fat, 4 calories per gram of protein or carbs
and 2 calories per gram fiber
