What Are the Basics of Healthy Eating? | Superfoods Guide

So what are some healthy eating basics that
you can thing about if you’re looking to upgrade your food choices? The first one would be to try to eat a diet
that is rich in whole foods or what I call clean eating. And these are foods that have not been processed
and they’re in as close to the form that they were planted and grown in. So things like apples and bananas and spinach
and kale. Things that are in their natural state, the
way they were grown and put here. The next thing I would suggest is adding in
more fruits and vegetables. Most of my clients don’t get enough fruits
and vegetables in their diet. So trying to crowd in as many as possible. And trying a variety. So trying to eat foods that are in season
or things that you may have never tried before. The next thing would be incorporate whole
grains. Most Americans are not getting enough whole
grains in their diet. The current government guidelines suggest
whole grains at every meal. So you want to have things like oatmeal, quinoa,
brown rice, whole grain bread, seven grain bread. And incorporate those whole grains. Those are the grains that give you energy. The next thing you want to do is you want
to look for ways to decrease the amount of animal protein in your diet. I’m not suggesting that we eliminate animal
protein from our diet, but look for ways to crowd in alternative sources of protein such
as nuts and seeds or grains such as quinoa or beans and lentils. This will reduce the amount of fat in your
diet. And then the next key would be adding in dark
leafy greens. These are the most missing vegetables in the
American diet. So things like kale, collard greens, spinach. I recommend that my clients eat something
green every day. So I’m starting my own green food movement. Go green and eat something green every day
and you’ll feel a lot better.
